Keyless Entry System

Remote Keyless System Receiver module

The receiver is an radio frequency (RF) device that contains the programming logic for the RKE system. It is located beneath the lower instrument panel of the passenger, close to the glovebox opening. The RF receiver is the radio transmitter at 315 MHz and receives and decodes a stream from the RKE key fob. The data stream is typically 64 to 128 bits long and includes the preamble, command code, and rolling codes. The RF signal employs amplitude-shift keying to reduce the battery's use and improve transmission range.

When a user presses one of the functions switches on the RKE key fob, it turns on mechanical actuators inside the key fob, which press a button that is corresponding to the RF receiver. This triggers a signaling process to send a message back to the BCM which indicates that the function switch pressed was actuated.

The BCM then sends a signal to the RKE transmitter to transmit the RF radio code to the vehicle based on the transmitted code. The receiver also stores transmitter codes in memory, which allows up to four remote keyless entry transmitters to operate the vehicle at the same time. The RF receiver chime when it receives a signal from a transmitter not matched.
